In recent weeks, a number of media outlets, including the Associated Press, have reported that U.S. Congressional leaders are considering a new federal tax on soda and other non-alcoholic beverages as a means of paying for health care reform. Several recent editorials have called the tax the first step on a slippery slope toward the taxation of all fattening foods.
