OBITUARY: Karen L. Newman

    Karen L. Newman of Middletown passed away unexpectedly Monday May 25, 2009, at her home. She was 55.
    Mrs. Newman was born and raised in New Castle, daughter of the late John and Lillian Cole.
    She made Middletown her home for the past 21 years. 
    Mrs. Newman worked as a secretary for The DuPont Company, Wilmington, for 31 years, from where she retired in 2002. 
    She was a dedicated member of Port Penn Volunteer Fire Company, Station No. 29, where she served as fire recorder. She also was a member of The Ladies Auxiliary of The Wilmington Manor Fire Company. 
    She enjoyed quilting and shopping, but most important to Mrs. Newman was her family. Her heart belonged to her family.
    She will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 35 years Larry Newman; two sons, Larry E. Newman and John W. Newman and his girlfriend, Irene Alkire, all of Middletown; two sisters, Carol Cole and Jackie King, both of New Castle; her two loving pet dogs, Nikko and Blitz. 
        Friends may call Friday, May 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Beeson Funeral Home of Newark, 2053 Pulaski Highway.
    Services will be Saturday, May 30, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home, where friends may also call one hour earlier.
    Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle. Mrs. Newman will be honored by members of The Port Penn Volunteer Fire Company.
