     William M. “Bill” Piser of Smyrna passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 89.
    Mr. Piser was born in Middletown, the son of the late John and Mary Piser.
    He was a graduate of Middletown High School, and served in the Army Air Corps in World War II.
    He was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central and later by Conrail, from where he retired in 1981 after 35 years of service.
    Mr. Piser was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Smyrna.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John “Jack” Piser and James C. Piser.
    He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie B. Piser; a son and a daughter-in-law, Kern and Marianne Piser of Newark; a sister, Phyllis Stoltz of Johnson City, N.Y.; and three grandsons, Matthew D. and Robin C. Piser, both of Arlington, Va., and William M. Piser II of Newark.
    Services were held Monday, April 27, at First Presbyterian Church, 118 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.
    Burial was in Old St. Ann’s Cemetery, Middletown.
