Robert G. Holdway passed away Monday, June 14, 2010. He was 80.
He was the son of the late Rev. Henry G. and Grace Holdway. He was predeceased by his first wife Asta Holdway and his second wife Julia (Johnson) Holdway.
Bob served his country during the Korean War and after the service completed his college education. He worked as an electrical engineer for Delmarva Power, where he made significant contributions in the development of the portable transformer. He also worked with the Wilmington Housing Authority in helping low income families lower their energy costs. After his retirement he worked as a consultant for the Philadelphia Gas and Electric Company. He was a Deacon and Elder at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church and served on the building committee during the planning and construction of the church’s new addition.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mildred I. Holdway; his children, Karen Fox and her husband John, and Linda Rose; his step-children, Jerri Laird and Karen Brinegan and her husband Larry; his sister, Betty Phillips and her husband William. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Christopher Fox, Kameron Hanson and Daniel Fox; and his great-granddaughter, Evelyn Fox. In addition he is survived by the step-children from his second marriage and numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. June 17 at the McCrery Memorial Chapel, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy., at Duncan Road, Wilmington. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. June 18 at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennan’s Church Road, Wilmington. Burial will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
