Obituary for Myrtle Blanchfield

    Myrtle Blanchfield of Blackbird passed away peacefully June 14, 2010 at Christiana Hospital in Newark with her loving family by her side. She was 96.
    Born on March 1, 1914 in Blackbird, she was the daughter of the late John and Laura (Seward) Squares.
    She was raised in Blackbird and was a lifelong resident of the Middletown-Townsend area.  She often recalled as a young child, taking the train from Blackbird to Townsend to attend school.  Myrtle enjoyed being a homemaker and was a proficient seamstress.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Roland in 1977; two daughters, Janice Perry and Mary Kesner; two sons, John L. and Alfred R. Blanchfield; three sisters, Louise Foraker, Elizabeth Blanchfield and Ruth Carroll and two brothers, John and James Squares.
    Myrtle leaves many wonderful memories to her daughters, Esther Barthelmeh of Middletown and Sandy Blanchfield of Bear, as well as Betty Bailey of Dover who she raised like a daughter; two sons, Robert Blanchfield of Kernersville, N.C. and Larry Blanchfield of Roxboro, N.C.; four sisters, Laura Lugovoy of New Castle, Martha Large of Beaver Falls, Pa., Rosie Moore of Millington, Md. and Ida Mae Ford of Blackbird; 16 grandchildren; ¬¬¬27 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren and many dear nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 20 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, DE where family and friends may visit from 1 to 2 p.m.  Interment will follow in Townsend Cemetery.
