Marie J. Guseman of Middletown passed away peacefully Friday, April 10, 2009, at Christiana Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was 68.
Mrs. Guseman was born on Jan. 25, 1941, in West Chester, Pa., daughter of the late Charles Wayne and Mary Elizabeth (Simmons) Johnson.
Her life centered on her many family and friends. At any time of the day or night she put aside her own plans to help a family member or friend in need. She was full of life and always gave of herself willingly and without complaint. She was always concerned for others and never thought of herself. Her sweet spirit, servant’s heart and friendly demeanor made her a favorite to all who knew her. She always introduced herself to strangers and always walked away with a new friend.
On April 22, 1961, Mrs. Guseman married the love of her life, Donald A. Guseman. They settled in Middletown and together raised three wonderful children.
She worked for nine years at Wilmington General Hospital. Following a 10-year leave to raise her family, she went to work at Atlantic Aviation in New Castle, from where she retired in 2002 after 28 years of dedicated service.
Mrs. Guseman was a loving and devoted wife, mom, aunt, mom-mom and friend. She cherished her family immensely as they did her. She kept close at heart her lifetime friends. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her. When she wasn’t spending time with family or friends, she enjoyed working on her many projects. At any given time, she was always involved in one or more projects. She was extremely artistic and creative and every project she undertook had to be perfectly completed. She had a special love for animals, particularly her cats.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charlie.
She leaves many cherished memories to her loving husband of 48 years, Donald; her children and their families, Mike and Lisa Guseman of Clayton, Mark and Tammy Guseman of Townsend, and Denise Barr of Middletown; a sister, Nancy Voss; a sister-in-law, Marian Daqui; seven grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In memory of her countless hours volunteering with Hospice, memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice Inc., 3515 Silverside Road, Suite 100, Wilmington, DE 19810.
Friends may call Thursday, April, 16, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.
Arrangements by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, Middletown.
