OBITUARY: Marvin L. Skip Evans

    Marvin L Skip Evans of Middletown, formerly of Frederick, Md., died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at his home, under the care of Season’s Hospice.
    Mr. Evans was born Aug. 28, 1931, in Kansas City, Kansas, son of the late Lee Roy and Martha Fleming Evans.
    He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1970. Following his honorable discharge, he worked as an electrician for EASTALCO and a security guard for USAMRIID at Ft. Detrick.
    Mr. Evans was Post Advocate for Sgt. William Lloyd Nelson VFW Post No. 3792 of Middletown, a member of the M.O.T. Jean Birch Senior Center and Wards Hill Baptist Church and an avid John Wayne fan.
    He was preceded in death by two wives, Lillian Evans and Almetta O. Dixon Evans.
    He is survived by a son, Skip Leroy Evans and his fiancée, Derinda Hammond, of Frederick; a daughter and a son-in-law, Katie and Mitch Gearinger, with whom he lived; a brother, Donald Evans of Liverpool, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Marina McDaniel and her husband, John, Christina Hernandez and her husband, Luis, Ashley McKeown and her husband, Sean, and Robert Gearinger; and five great-grandchildren, Alex, Luis, Angelina, Marissa and Aleyna.
    Friends may call Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home if Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, Md.
    Services will be Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home, where friends may also call one hour earlier.
    Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
