Obituary for Elaine (Maxwell) Shetzler

    Elaine (Maxwell) Shetzler of Odessa passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Christiana Hospital. She was 84.
    Mrs. Shetzler was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Helen (Pippin) and Leslie Maxwell.
    She retired from the State of Delaware in 1988 after working in Occupational Therapy at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill. She was also co-owner of Willow Lodge Ceramics where she was known for being a true artisan with a keen eye for detail in producing beautiful lifelike porcelain dolls.
    She was an avid reader, loved socializing and getting together with her close friends and family, and she always enjoyed watching Philadelphia Phillies games.
    She was a lifetime member of Odessa Volunteer Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary, where she enjoyed supporting her husband, sons and grandchildren in their service to the community. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the M.O.T. Jean Birch Senior Center.
    The Shetzler family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Christiana Hospital, 6E, for their wonderful, carin, and compassionate service to Mrs. Shetzler and her family.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Pond.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Edward A. Shetzler; three sons and three daughters-in-law, William and Nancy, Robert and Margie, and Robin and Diane; seven grandchildren, Dee, Billy, Glen, Robbie, Andrew, Chrissy and Holly; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Maxwell of Wilmington.
    Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, June 10, at Old Drawyers Cemetery, Route 13, north of Odessa.
    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Odessa Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 81 Odessa, Odessa, DE 19730; or to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 253, Odessa, DE 19730.
