    Joseph Christian Schranck Sr., long-time resident of Middletown, passed away from complications arising after a massive stroke Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Christiana Care Hospital. He was 60.
    Mr. Schranck was born on Feb. 7, 1949 in Wilmington, son of Joseph Coley Schranck and the late Margaret (Hennis).
    He graduated from John Dickinson High School in 1967.
    Mr. Schranck had a long and proud career as an electrician with Local 313 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) on projects throughout the state.
    He retired in 2008 and enjoyed traveling, golf and volunteer work. He especially enjoyed being an active, contributing participant among the friends of Bill W.
    Mr. Schranck will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
    He is survived by his son, Joseph C. Schranck Jr. of Wilmington; his father, Joseph C. Schranck of Rehoboth Beach; a sister and a brother-ini-law, Karen and John Dettwyler of Hockessin; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Frederick H. and Susan Schranck of Rehoboth Beach, Thomas A. and Debra Schranck of Mountainside, N.J. and David J. Schranck and Margaret Bobick of Falls Church, Va.; five nieces, Carolyn Schranck Theim, Julia Schranck, Rachel Schranck, Samantha and Molly Schranck; two nephews, Zachary Dettwyler and Benjamin Dettwyler; and his former wife, Susan Schranck of Wilmington.
    The family expresses its appreciation to the staff of the Surgical Critical Care Complex at Christiana Care for their care and kindness toward Joe and his family during his illness.
    Mass of Christian Burial was held April 14 at St. Joseph Catholic Parish, Middletown.
    Burial was in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.
    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Centennial, CO 80112 or to a charity of one’s choice.
