OBITUARY: Virginia W. 'Ginger' Pierce

    Virginia W. “Ginger” Pierce of Middletown passed away Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Christiana Hospital in Newark. She was 74.
    Mrs. Pierce was born March 29, 1935, in Chicago, Ill., daughter of the late Hobart F. and June Ellen (Walker) Wheeling.
    She worked for the Department of Labor for a number of years. She retired from Produce Marketing Association.
    Mrs. Pierce enjoyed cooking. She especially loved to travel and visited many places all over the world. She was very involved with Associated Community Talents, Inc., at the Everett Theatre for many years. She performed in many shows at the Everett and was instrumental in forming the first theatre group, Off Broad Street Players. She was an avid reader who enjoyed visiting the library.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Scott Pierce, in 2000; and by a son, Robert Clay Pierce, in 1993.
    She leaves many wonderful memories to her four daughters and three sons-in-law, Shanna and Larry Shuler of Middletown, Susan and Bailey Russell of North East, Md., Jessica and Scott Ventura of Middletown, and Helen Pierce and her partner, Michelle Little, of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Judith Doughton of North Carolina and Geraldine Oakalowski of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
    Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 1, at St. Annes Episcopal Church, 115 E. Green St., Middletown.
