    William Joseph White Sr. of Townsend passed away peacefully Sunday, April 19, 2009, at his home, with his loving family at his side. He was 78.
    Mr. White was born Nov. 11, 1930, in Bryn Mawr, Pa., son of the late John T. and Jean (Flanagan) White.
    He proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Mattaponi during the Korean War.
    He was a millwright for Ametek, formerly Haveg, from where he retired after more than 30 years of service.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack White, Charles White and Joseph White; and a son, William Joseph White Jr.
    He is survived by five daughters and two sons-in-law, Peg and Dennis Nichols, Diana Purcell, Linda Weaver, Connie and JC Gildersleeve and Felicia Lewandowski; a son, Michael J. White; two sisters, Teresa “Tess” Penque and Winifred “Winnie” Rivera; a granddaughter, Carrie Weaver Long; 29 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
    Mass of Christian Burial was April 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 371 E. Main St., Middletown.
    Those serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Eric Nichols, John Josephson Jr., John White, Jake White, Stephen Lewandowski, Kyle Quillen, Benjamin White and Joshua White.
    Committal services were  in Delaware Veterans Cemetery.
    Arrangements were by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral, LLC, Middletown.
