Middletown, Del. -

    Party: Independent Party of Delaware
    Address: Nassau
    Employment: Retired
Past Employment: General Contractor; Deputy Chief, Wilmington Fire Department
Education: Southern Methodist University, Leadership Program; Goldey-Beacom College, Business Administration
Past Political Experience: President of AARP in Sussex County; Spokesman for the Wilmington Fire Department and Wilmington Pension Fund

Of the three candidates for Insurance Commissioner, Tom Savage alone stands for affordable comprehensive universal health care for all Delawareans; children, adults and seniors, no matter what your age or health condition, this coverage includes physician fees, prescriptions, dental and eye care and mental health care, equal to the coverage that all legislators enjoy by eliminating the 40 percent costs of insurance companies’ fees.
Costs under the plan should not exceed 5 percent to 7 percent. Funding for this program comes from all of the fees from numerous fragmented federal and state programs currently paid to private insurance companies. Funding is a graduated cost of 2 percent per individual, 2.5 percent for families and up to 9 percent for businesses according to the number of employees; a surcharge of 2.5 percent for families whose income exceeds $500,000, based upon your gross income.
There are more than 105,000 Delawareans who are completely uninsured and more than 100,000 are underinsured. It is projected that when the healthcare security program is implemented it will return $1 billion dollars back into the economy of Delaware through efficiencies and savings.
Every Delawarean will benefit from this program in one way or another. Remember, there is no law that requires any business or company, city, town or state to continue any present insurance coverage.
If you want to be covered by the Delaware Health Security Program, sometimes referred to as “a single payer program,” vote first for Tom Savage on the independent column first, then select your other candidates for their positions.
Tom Savage is not a one-issue candidate, but your health care coverage is his prime concern. Because of limited space for editorials, other issues can’t be addressed at this time. I need your vote. I can’t do it alone.
    Thank you and God Bless.
