    • Seen on Scene: Middletown Hummers Parade

    • The Hummers Parade in Middletown ushered in 2014 by poking fun at celebrities and politicians. The favorite target this year was Miley Cyrus and her "Wrecking Ball" video, but Obamacare was a close second. The event was led by "Grand Marshal for Life" Jack Schreppler. This year's parade started on a serious note, however, as Mayor Ken Branner presented a proclamation declaring Jan. 1, 2014 as "Sam Miller Day" in honor of the great football player from Middletown who is battling cancer. Miller's father, Dutch, was the inspiration for the parade which began when Dutch was ill on a New Year's Day and friends strutted to his house to cheer him up. Schreppler said that the trophies this year featured a football theme as a tribute to Sam Miller, an All-American defensive end who recently was inducted into the University of Delaware Hall of Fame.
