May is International Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness of this rare genetic disorder and to support those living with this disease. Tuberous sclerosis complex, also known as tuberous sclerosis, affects between 25,000 and 40,000 people in the U.S. and up to one million people worldwide. This rare condition may cause tumors to form in vital organs and can affect many different parts of the body, including the brain and kidney as well as the heart, lungs and skin. Although non-cancerous, these tumors may lead to severe and potentially life-threatening complications and can impact the quality of life for both those living with the disease and their caregivers. The below infographic highlights the different manifestations individuals with TSC may develop.
