Hood Ballers all-star game tonight

   The Hood Ballers League all-star basketball game will be played tonight at Silver Lake Park. Action begins at 5:30 p.m.

   Last week, Tony Marenco felt like something was missing while going through his everday routine. After more than two months of working with his 12-year-old Bear Babe Ruth all-star team, the youth baseball manager was left with only some awesome memories of a journey around many basepaths.

Girls volleyball, men's volleyball signups

   The Appoquinimink Boys & Girls Club is taking signups for its fall girls volleyball league and men’s 30 and over basketball league.    

Wilson's 20 lifts Uptown to title

   No. 1 Uptown lived up to its seed and topped the No. 2 Crusaders 58-50 in the Hood Ballers League championship game Aug. 28 before a lively crowd on the outdoor courts at Silver Lake Park.

Ballers take outdoor courts

   The Hood Ballers League basketball playoffs will be this weekend at Silver Lake Park. The semifinals start at 6 p.m. Saturday. The championship game tips off at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Semi-pro football game at Appo High

   The unbeaten Claymont Buccaneers semi-pro football team will host the Philadelphia Braves at 1 p.m. Sunday at Appoquinimink High.

Haines, Robinson, Thomas top golfers

   Norine Haines (Flight A), Evelyn Robinson (Flight B) and Ann Thomas (Flight C) were top Field Shots finishers at the Middletown Ladies Golf Association outing Aug. 19.

Heath, Lambert pace Peach 5K

    Geoff Heath and Danielle Lambert were the top male and female finishers at the 14th annual Olde Tyme Peach Festival 5K Run/Walk held Saturday morning at Silver Lake Park.

Rebels 12-U, 15-U travel baseball forming

   The First State Rebels baseball organization is forming 12-U and 15-U travel team that will play in a few tournaments during the spring 2011 season.

DSB U-14 boys soccer tryouts

   The DSB Kickers United Premier U-14 boys soccer team will have open practice/tryouts to select a dedicated keeper and up to two field players for the 2010-11 season on Aug. 24, 25 and 26 6:30pm to 8 p.m. at the Delaware Saengerbund, 49 Salem Church Road in Newark.

Mid County youth bowling signups

   Mid County Lanes will hold signups for its youth bowling league from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28.
