Both No. 1 seed Middletown and No. 5 Appoquinimink advanced to the Division I DIAA Girls Soccer State Semifinals on Wednesday night; the two Blue Hen Conference rivals will face-off in the semifinals next Wednesday.

The No. 1 seeded Middletown Lady Cavaliers cruised to a 6-1 victory over No. 8 Polytech Wednesday in the opening round of the Division I DIAA Girls Soccer State Tournament.

The Lady Cavs took control early and never backed down, punching their ticket to the Division I Semifinals on Wednesday.

Middletown’s opponent will be a familiar one, in fellow Blue Hen Conference foe and rival No. 5 Appoquinimink.

The Lady Jaguars took on No. 4 Wilmington Charter on Wednesday night in a tight contest.

Appo and Charter played to a 0-0 stalemate through two halves Wednesday night, before winning the first round matchup on penalty kicks 4-1.

The other semifinal in DI play is also set, with No. 2 Padua Academy advancing past No. 7 Sussex Tech and No. 3 Caesar Rodney knocking off No. 6 Concord.
