The Caesar Rodney Riders punched their ticket to the DIAA Boys Lacrosse State Tournament Semifinals, upsetting No. 3 Appoquinimink 13-9 Saturday in Middletown.
The No. 6 Riders were led by Josh Cosden who finished with a team-high four goals, followed closely by Demetrius Stevenson who ended the night with a hat-trick. Jared Wagenhoffer and Jacob Pangle both finished with two goals apiece for CR.
Appo, who defeated CR 16-4 just a few weeks ago in the regular season, jumped ahead of the Riders 2-0 early on Saturday night, however, Caesar Rodney would respond this time around.
After falling behind by two goals, the Riders took a lead of their own at 9-6 in the third quarter.
Then the Jaguars scored three straight to tie the game at 9-9 heading into the final quarter.
With just over seven minutes to go, Cosden fired home a goal to put the Riders up 10-9. The Riders would pull away after the tie-breaking goal, with tallies from Wagenhoffer, Pangle and Riley Tracey to seal the victory.
For the Jaguars, Cross Ferrara scored four goals while Jackson Truitt scored three. Zach Bowen had four assists for Appoquinimink which finished the year with a 15-2 record.
Caesar Rodney (13-4) moves on to the semifinals Wednesday against defending state champs Salesianum.
