In a close season opening game, Caesar Rodney topped Appoquinimink, 12-7 on Friday night.
The Riders made plays on both sides of the ball throughout the game, while forcing a fumble, and interception and two turnovers on downs against the Jags.
Appo opened the scoring early in the first quarter, taking a 7-0 lead when Antonio Alvarez-Quintero connected with John Ngatia-Kariuki on a 42-yard strike.
After recovering an Appo fumble, the Riders capitalized on the ensuing offensive drive, one capped off by an eight-yard touchdown run by Emmanuel Kennedy, cutting the Appo lead to 7-6 at the halftime break.
Still 7-6 Appo late in the third, the Riders took their first lead of the game off a 51-yard touchdown pass from James Love to Joe Delgado, giving CR a 12-7 lead.
The Riders would hold onto their lead throughout the fourth quarter, eventually denying a fourth-down attempt by the Jags as time expired.
The Jaguars will look to turn things around next week, hosting Delcastle on Friday night at 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Riders look to go 2-0 when they hit the road taking on St. Georges Tech Saturday at noon.
