The Middletown Athletic Club has announced it will award a $500 scholarship to a graduating student-athlete from the Appoquinimink School District.
The award will be presented to a senior cross country runner, who meets the club’s and guidance office’s criteria, including grade-point average, completion of a one-page essay, and letters of recommendation. The complete application kit can be picked up in the high school guidance office.
MAC president Kevin Douglas said, “One of the original premises of the club was to support scholastic runners and assist them in continuing to compete past high school. This scholarship fund has been supported 100 percent by club membership dues and club activities, with the hope that we will be able to grow the fund and provide annual opportunities to our young runners.”
Applicants do not need to be a member of the club to be eligible to receive the award, but must be attending an accredited four-year college with a cross country program. Douglas and two other members will review the applications, which will be presented for review anonymously by the guidance office.
Applications are due by early April in the guidance office. For more information about the club or the scholarship, email club board member Kendra Myers at kendra.myers@appo.k12.de.us or go online to macrunning.com.
The Middletown Athletic Club is made up of area members, including youth, open and master runners of all abilities and their families. The club promotes running as a family activity and hosts multiple events each year throughout the M.O.T. area.
