Newark man arrested for raping teenager

A 50-year-old Newark man was arrested Friday and charged with raping a teenage girl, police said.

New Castle County Police arrested Dwight Morgan after investigating a tip received Dec. 30 saying that he raped a 17-year-old girl.

“Police learned that the incident occurred over the past four months while at the suspect’s home,” said police spokesman Cpl. John Weglarz.

Morgan who resides in the 1200 block of Delpha Drive in Yeatmans Mill,

He was also charged with possession of child pornography.

Detectives obtained a search warrant during the investigation for Morgan’s home and seized several computers and other pieces of electronic equipment that contained evidence linking him to the crimes, Weglarz said.

Morgan was charged with rape, sexual exploitation of a child, sexual abuse of a child by a person of trust, sexual solicitation of a child, unlawful sexual contact and possession of child pornography. He was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute after failing to post $347,000 cash bail.
