The Delaware State Police are investigating the early-morning robbery of a Townsend area gas station on May 28.


   The Delaware State Police are investigating the early-morning robbery of a Townsend area gas station on May 28.

   Police said the incident occurred as a black male suspect entered the Valero Gas Station in the 4000 block of Route 13 at 12:05 a.m. The suspect displayed what appeared to be a short rifle type gun and confronted the male clerk. He then demanded money from the store register as well as cigarettes. The clerk complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes to the suspect.

   The suspect then fled from the store on foot and was last seen heading northbound on Route 71. The clerk was not injured.

   The suspect was described as 6-foot-3 or 6-4 tall, 150 to 160 pounds with a thin build He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark blue jeans. He was armed with a short rifle.
