Peter A. Kelso of Newark passed from this life into the next surrounded by his wife and children on Saturday, June 25, 2011. He was 62.

Born in Montreal, Quebec, on December 11, 1948, Peter was one of six children born to the late Joseph Louis Kelso and Marie Pauline LaPointe Kelso.  With his family he moved to Delaware in 1981, where he would meet and marry his beloved wife, Arlene A. Salgado.

A longtime resident of Middletown, Peter was a well-known and highly respected leader in the local business community.  For many years he owned and operated a retail packaging company and later established an Aflac insurance agency.  As a dedicated supporter of Rotary International, Peter was a founding member of the Rotary Club of Southern New Castle County and was honored to have been named a Paul Harris Fellow.

A man of many talents and interests, Peter was a gifted musician and singer and often acted in and directed productions for Associated Community Talents.  He was also an accomplished private pilot, a keen sailor, and an avid fisherman.  In earlier years, he generously shared his knowledge and experience with the local Boy Scout troop as an assistant leader.  A devoted family man above all else, he was most proud of raising a beautiful family of six wonderful children with his beloved wife.

In addition to his wife, Arlene, Peter is survived by his children, Ronald J. Kelso, Angela K. Flannagan, Caroline W. Hatchett (Anthony), Kelly S. Flanagan (Kelly), Michael P. Schimmel (Katherine), and Peter Daniel Kelso (fiancée, Erin McAfee); brothers, Richard E. Kelso (Mona), John F. Kelso (Nancy), and Robert C. Kelso; sisters, Jocelyn Miles (Tom) and Pauline Richards (Gary); thirteen grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Friday, July 1, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, 345 Bear-Christiana Road, Bear, where visitation will begin at 9 am. A reception will follow the Mass in the church hall. Burial will be held privately.
