A 13-year-old was arrested yesterday after he robbed another teenager at knifepoint of his cell phone in the Vinings at Christiana Apartments in Newark.
The 16-year-old victim told New Castle County police that when he was walking home from the school bus, the other teen approached him, pulled out a knife and robbed.
“The subject came out from behind a wall near the front stairwell [of the apartment building] and displayed a knife as he grabbed the victim and demanded property,” said county police spokesman Cpl. John Weglarz.
The victim complied and handed his cell phone to the suspect, who then fled.
A short time later, Weglarz said that police found the 13-year-old suspect at his home in the 1000 block of Vinings Way and took him to county headquarters where investigators were able to confirm his involvement in the crime.
He was charged with robbery, terroristic threatening and possession of a deadly weapon and committed to the New Castle County Juvenile Detention center after failing to post a $21,000 secured bond.
