A 76-year-old New Castle woman is Delaware’s first death from the West Nile virus this year.  The Delaware Division of Public health also confirmed an additional case of the disease.


A 76-year-old New Castle woman is Delaware’s first death from the West Nile virus this year.  The Delaware Division of Public health also confirmed an additional case of the disease.

The woman who died also had several underlying medical conditions. The additional case involves an 80-year-old woman who was treated and released from a hospital on Wednesday.

To avoid mosquito bites and reduce the risk of infection, health experts recommend using insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants, and drain or remove items that collect water and provide mosquito-breeding habitat.
