Fun facts about marraige and weddings.
1.5 million: That’s the number of engaged American couples who registered for wedding presents, according to a 2011 study by TheKnot.com and WeddingChannel.com. The average number of stores they registered for were three, and the top three stores were Bed, Bath & Beyond, Target and Macy’s.
Registry: The average number of items on a couple’s registry is 153, with the average gift registry worth $5,158, according to the fourth annual The Knot Market Intelligence Bridal Registry Study. In a registry, the most popular category is bakeware, followed closely by kitchen appliances. But don’t think it’s just the ladies who are choosing these items. The study finds that 69 percent of grooms are involved.
David’s Bridal brides: Your dress company was acquired by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, LLC, a private equity investment firm. In the deal, David’s Bridal Inc., a wedding gown company valued at about $1.05 billion, was sold in August. But don’t worry about your dress – the investment firm plans on continuing conquering the wedding market, and is expected to open two more stores in the UK next year. It already has more than 300 throughout the United States.
Wedding expenses: This year, the average cost of a wedding increased to $26.989, according to a new study by Brides magazine. This could be a problem for couples, as 36 percent are now paying for the wedding themselves instead of having their parents pick up the tab. The bridal party had better start saving, too: The average bridesmaid dress is $145, while the average groomsman outfit is $137.
Interracial marriage: This hit a new high in 2010 -- the latest statistics available at press time -- when 1 in 12 couples, or 15 percent, were spouses of different races or ethnicities. The Pew Research Center study of census data reports that 4.8 million couples were in interracial marriages, which was more than double the number in 1980.
