The regular season concluded for the Middletown Cavaliers last Wednesday when they defeated A.I. duPont 55-21 solidifying a 8-2 overall record on the year.

After that victory the Cavaliers could finally call themselves Blue Hen Flight A Division champs, even if it was a few weeks in the making. Back on Wednesday, Feb. 4 the Cavaliers defeated William Penn for the first time in school history, all but dethroning the perennial powerhouse. Though, they still needed to post wins in their last three meets, which they did against Concord, Glasgow, and A.I. duPont as mentioned.

Middletown received even more good news earlier this week when the dual-state seedings were released.  While the usual suspects, Smyrna, Polytech, Cape Henlopen, Caesar Rodney, and Salesianum took their spots atop the Division I seedings, Middletown earned the sixth seed.

The dual-meet championships scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17 were postponed due to inclement weather and pushed back to Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Before embarking on the dual-state tournament, the Cavaliers will participate in this weekend’s Blue Hen Conference Championships.

The Blue Hen Conference Championships will begin Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Newark High School starting with the preliminary rounds, followed by the championship rounds on Saturday, Feb. 20 beginning at 9:30 a.m.
