A Maryland man lost his life in a motorcycle crash over the weekend north of Odessa.

According to Delaware State Police, the crash occurred around 7:40 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015 as Nicholas E. Russo, 33 of Warwick, Maryland, was operating a 2007 Honda CBR1000 motorcycle northbound on U.S. Route 13 in the left lane just north of Marl Pit Road with a group of other motorcycles.

As the traffic crossed over Drawyer Creek, several motorcycles began splitting cars that were traveling in the same direction by passing in between them. At the same time, Russo attempted to pass a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado on the narrow left shoulder, which caused the left side of the truck to collide with the right side of the motorcycle, ejecting Russo from the motorcycle.

Russo, who was wearing an approved DOT helmet, then struck a guardrail and was pronounced dead at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics.

Michael P. Stradley, 31 of Newark, was properly restrained and was able to bring his Chevrolet Colorado to a controlled stop on the right shoulder. He was uninjured.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Charges are not expected to be filed. DuPont Parkway northbound lanes were closed at Del. Route 299 for approximately five hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
