Raffle sponsored by Friends of the Library group to raise funds for library programs and materials.

The new Friends of the Appoquinimink Library group is sponsoring a quilt raffle to benefit programs and collections at the library.

The quilt, created by the library’s Sew-Bee-It Quilters group and donated for the Friends raffle, is currently on display at the library, located at 651 N. Broad Street in Middletown. Tickets are available for $3 each or 2 for $5 through the end of August.

The Sew-Bee-It Quilters group has been meeting at the library for over ten years, the outgrowth of a library quilting class which proved to be so much fun that the participants decided to continue by making a group quilt. They have created several quilts over the years which have served as fundraisers for the library. The quilt being raffled this summer is called Butterfly Flip and is made largely from fabrics donated to the group. The Sew-Bee-It Quilters welcome anyone interested in quilting to join them at their monthly meetings, held the second Saturday of each month.

The Friends of the Appoquinimink Library is a support group for the library which sponsors programs and special library events, donates funds for library materials, and promotes the library through public awareness and advocacy. Membership in the Friends is open to all, with dues going to directly support library services to all. The Friends recently sponsored a family Summer Reading program event which was attended by 150 children and parents.

The group is also hosting a used book sale at the library during the Peach Festival this Saturday, Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For more information about the Friends group, please pick up a brochure at the library, or plan to attend the next meeting on Monday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m.
