DelDOT will begin the installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. Route 13 and Fieldsboro Road in Townsend next week.
Members of the community along with the help from local legislators had pushed for the past four years to get DelDOT to install a traffic signal at the dangerous intersection which has been the site of multiple vehicle crashes, including a fatal crash on June 1.
The DelDOT Traffic Signal Construction Section in conjunction with Kriss Contracting will begin the installation of the traffic signal on Wednesday, Oct. 7. There will be intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Friday at the intersection.
Variable message signs will be placed on site to advise motorists in advance of the work.
The new traffic light installation is scheduled to be completed by mid-November, pending weather, according to DelDOT.
