A Middletown man and his dog were uninjured after the vehicle they were in crashed at a Summit Bridge Road strip mall.
The incident occurred on Monday, Oct. 5 at approximately 9 a.m.
According to the Middletown Police Department, the driver, Dennis Martin, of Middletown, was driving his 1997 Toyota 4-Runner southbound, behind the Middletown Diner, at 5240 Summit Bridge Road. For unknown medical reasons, Martin lost control of his vehicle causing it to stray to the right.
The vehicle’s right front wheel struck a concrete barrier at the edge of the asphalt driveway at the strip mall. The impact deflected the vehicle to the left where its left front struck several electrical junction boxes for the businesses, and disabled the vehicle.
Martin was located by first responders and officers with Middletown police who found him conscious, but incoherent. He was transported to the Christiana Emergency Room in Middletown where he was still being evaluated for medical issues, but suffered no injuries from the crash.
Also in the vehicle was Martin’s black Labrador puppy which was also unhurt, and was being restrained in a dog safety belt.
