A Middletown police investigation led to the arrest of two people and the seizure of more than 550 bags of heroin and other drugs on East Lake Street last Tuesday.

According to the Middletown Police Department, an investigation into suspected narcotics sales at a residence on the 100 block of East Lake Street took place on Oct. 20. Police searched the home and discovered 558 bags of heroin (8.37 grams), 5.5 grams of crack cocaine packaged for sale, a small amount of marijuana, a digital scale and packaging material. The residence was occupied by Cory Clark, 30, and Bonita Hughes, 33, both from Middletown.

Police said that Clark was found to be in possession of $1,300 of suspected drug proceeds at the time of the arrest. He is now facing charges for possession of a controlled substance in a tier-five quantity, possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hughes was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Clark and Hughes were later arraigned. Clark received $35,150 while Hughes received $200 secured bail in reference to the charge.
