Middletown police are searching for the suspect in the case in which a 7-year-old boy suffered a head injury as he jumped out of the car.

The Middletown Police Department responded to the Route 301 Truck Plaza on Thursday at about 4:54 p.m., after a report of a carjacking.

Police said an unknown man entered a car which was occupied by a 7-year-old child while the mother was in the store.

The man started to drive away, but the child was able to jump out of the car in the parking lot.

The man then turned onto southbound U.S. Route 301 and headed toward Maryland.

The child suffered a head injury and was treated at A.I. du Pont Hospital and released, police said.

The suspect was described as a dark-skinned black male, 25 to 35 years old, with a mustache, a medium build, about 6-feet tall, 200 pounds, wearing blue jeans and a dark hoodie.

The stolen car was a silver 2012 Chevrolet Impala four-door sedan, with damage to front passenger quarter panel, and dark-tinted windows, with Delaware license plate 63160.

Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect or the car to call Detective Joseph Womer at 302-376-9955 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
