Firefighters from the Middletown Volunteer Hose Company fought a house fire on East Lake Street around 1:15 a.m. this morning (Wednesday).

Firefighters from the Middletown Volunteer Hose Company fought a house fire on East Lake Street around 1:15 a.m. this morning (Wednesday).

The blaze engulfed a two-story house on the 10th unit block of East Lake Street in Middletown.

The house had been empty for some time and no one was injured.

Middletown police closed East Lake Street for about two hours while crews worked on putting out the fire.

According to the property owner, the house had already been gutted inside and he was trying to secure the necessary building permits from the Town of Middletown to rehab it.

The Delaware Fire Marshal is currently investigating the incident.
