Crafts, vendors, games, music and pie-eating contest also featured at event at Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library to raise funds for children's summer reading program.

It’s almost MayFest time at the Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library, 115 High St., Odessa. The event will be held Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This year marks the fifth annual MayFest and organizers are going all out, bringing in over 50 crafters and vendors, along with offering a myriad of games with prizes, face painting, Mother’s Day crafts, train rides for children and an “enormous” raffle.

MayFest will also feature the Cookie Mouse, who will be on hand selling and signing his books.

Katryna Cera-Proulx, a librarian at the Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library, noted that they are expecting big things at Mayfest, including a special contest.

“Our most anticipated portion of the event will be the pie eating contest where several fathers of our story time children have volunteered to participate,” Cera-Proulx said. “We are excited for this year and we cannot wait to see everyone.”

For the games, wristbands cost $5 each which covers all games. Face painting costs an additional $1 to $2.50, while raffle tickets will be on sale for $1 each or $5 for six.

All proceeds will benefit Corbit-Calloway’s Summer Reading Program.

“We hope to fund a year's worth of programming,” said Cera-Proulx. “We also want to raise awareness of all the programs and resources the library offers the public.”
