The Middletown Cavalier Marching Band will host the 2018 Tournament of Bands Showcase Saturday, Sept. 15, featuring both the Middletown and Appoquinimink high school bands.
The Middletown Cavalier Marching Band is hosting the 2018 Tournament of Bands Showcase featuring performances by 22 of the region's premier high school marching bands Saturday, Sept. 15.
Bands from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware will compete, including bands from Middletown and Appoquinimink high schools.
The show starts at noon with the Class A bands at Cavalier Stadium at Everett Meredith Middle School (the former high school), 504 S. Broad St., Middletown.
Open Class band competition begins at 5 p.m.
Appoquinimink High is scheduled to perform at 5:15 p.m.
Middletown High is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m.
The event, now in its seventh year, represents one of the first and most popular Region IX competitions in the Tournament of Bands season.
The competition is scheduled to proceed rain or shine.
Judging will be by eight members of the National Judges Association.
Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and students.
Showcase goals are:
•to provide a competitive contest where top marching bands test their performance "chops,"
•to provide bands and band directors with world-class judging and performance feedback,
•to provide a supportive atmosphere where high school musicians meet, make friends and forge new relationships,
•to showcase the benefits of an arts education.
