It’s in the DNA of Strangers You Know to grace music festivals like Firefly.
The pair met in 2013 as attendees of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. While bonding over synths, beats, guitars, lyrics and melody – the foundation of Strangers You Know was born.
California’s SYK is comprised of Grady Lee (vocals and guitar) and Adam Haagen (piano, guitar, vocals, banjo and mandolin). Lee and Haagen will make their Firefly debut in The Woodlands of Dover on June 18, arriving with their new EP, “Loosen Up the Leash.”
The project, released in March, demonstrates the band’s melting-pot sound that mixes indie-folk pop and R&B with a tinge of electro and 808s.
This eclectic EP comes from Lee and Haagen’s differing musical backgrounds. Haagen pulls from more analog forms of music, from artists such as The Beatles, Beck and more modern songwriters like Kacey Musgraves and The Avett Brothers.
On the other hand, Lee draws from modern music trends such as deep house and R&B.
Lee dished on his knowledge of the First State, his favorite music artists, plans for summer and more in this feature of Five Questions.
