Top three prize winners are from Smyrna, Elkton, Maryland, and Townsend
The winner of Willey Farms Vegetable Soup Cook Off on Saturday near Townsend was Dan Semenick of Smyrna. His winning recipe was “Maryland hearts of palm soup. “
All seven participants were non-professional home cooks. Their soups were judged on appearance, taste, texture, aroma and adherence to the theme of vegetable soup.
As the winner, Semenick received a $100 gift card to Willey Farms.
Joyce Lockard of Elkton, Maryland placed second, taking home a $50 gift card, and Annette Schwatka of Townsend finished third, taking home a $25 gift card.
Judges for the event were Dr. George Schreppler of Schreppler Chiropractic, Old State Elementary School Principal Rene Nolan and afternoon radio personality Chris Duff from 99.5 WJBR.
Visitors at Willey Farms watched the judging take place, and anyone who wished could taste any of the soups after the judging was complete.
