Residents at the Governor Bacon Health Center (GBHC) will greet the spring with newly decorated outdoor screened porches at the facility in Delaware City.
The Rotary Club of Southern New Castle County (SNCC) utilized a Rotary District 7630 grant to purchase new outdoor furniture and artwork to give a more home-like touch to the residents’ shared living areas at the facility. The outdoor porches are used three seasons of the year and provide a comfortable outdoor living space for residents at Governor Bacon, who are older adults and those with disabilities.
Jennifer Bobel, Volunteer Services Coordinator at Governor Bacon, said, “Many of our residents do not have family members or friends who visit, and we rely heavily on dedicated volunteers to provide exceptional services to our very special residents. The SNCC Rotary plays an integral role by enhancing the quality of life for all residents at GBHC. The Rotary serves with the belief that people can and do make a difference. The donation of Christmas gifts, activity therapy donations, bingo cards, and the bingo games that the Rotary holds each month for the residents have been absolutely wonderful, and the residents look forward with much anticipation their visits. We very much appreciate the SNCC Rotary for and assisting us in in providing this outstanding standard of care.”
SNCC Rotary Club President Joe Hortiz responded, “It is our hope that the new outdoor furniture will create a beautiful and more comfortable outdoor living space where the residents of Governor Bacon can spend some of their time, enjoying the fresh air and the nature surrounding the Governor Bacon campus.”
The Rotary Club of Southern New Castle County meets every Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. at the ChesDel Restaurant. Club president Joseph Hortiz and other club members welcome other MOT area residents who would like to participate in our community outreach.
