Delaware Gov. Jack Markell will make a declaration honoring Delaware Nonprofit Day at 11 a.m. May 18 at Legislative Hall, 411 Legislative Ave., Dover.

The day recognizes Delaware’s nonprofit sector for the work they do in contributing to quality of life for all Delawareans.  

Rep. Valerie Longhurst, D-15th Dist., and Sen. Ernesto Lopez, R-6th Dist., will present a Joint Tribute to the Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement and the nonprofit sector. Markell is scheduled to speak at 11:40 a.m.  

After the formal addresses, the event will move to the Tatnall Building where lunch will be served. Attendees will have a chance to mingle with their legislators and staffers to discuss nonprofit issues and missions.

Delaware nonprofits employ over 40,000 people in Delaware as of 2012; have a $1.9 billion payroll; $5.3 billion in revenue; and $432.2 million value of volunteer time. Delaware has 110,000 volunteers according to the Corporation for National and Community Service in 2014.
