The Dover/Kent County Metropolitan Planning Organization invites the public to attend a workshop from 4 to 7 p.m. June 8 at the Dover Public Library, 35 Loockerman Plaza.

The meeting’s purpose is to gather input on the MPO's long-range plan, also called the Metropolitan Transportation Plan.

A Metropolitan Transportation Plan defines how an area’s transportation system is projected to develop over the next 20 years and how transportation projects in central Delaware will be funded. The U.S. Department of Transportation requires the MPO to update its plan every four years as a prerequisite for federal funding.

Staff will have maps and other aids on hand to show some of the transportation-related projects that will appear in the plan, as well as ways for people to convey what central Delaware's transportation needs are and will be in the coming years.

The workshop is part of the public input collection phase of updating the Metropolitan Transportation Plan. MPO staff also has actively sought public input by releasing a survey, staffing booths at public events and giving presentations at local government meetings.

Civic groups that would like to have MPO staff give a presentation may call 387-6026.
