On those hot summer days there is no better relief than the cool waters of a nice swimming pool.
Here are at the Transcript we gathered a list of three swimming pools in Middletown and just north of the canal open to the public with a membership.
We recommend that you call ahead and check the hours and days of when the pools are open as they may change without notice.
1. Silver Lake Pool, 200 E. Cochran St., Middletown
Located adjacent to Silver Lake Park and behind Silver Lake Elementary School, this swimming pool is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. It features an outdoor “L-shaped” swimming pool, a baby pool for toddlers, a bath house, and canopies, benches, picnic tables and lounge chairs.
The pool is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week. Membership applications and information are available on the Town of Middletown website at, www.middletownde.org or by calling, 302-378-2211.
2. Bear-Glasgow Family YMCA, 351 George Williams Way, Newark
A membership at the “Y” entitles you to not only use of their gym facilities, but also access to two lap swimming pools and one activity pool which have officially opened for summer 2016. About 15 percent of members at the Y in Bear are from Middletown.
The two lap swimming pools (one is indoors, the other is outdoors) are 25 meters long and have a maximum depth of six feet. The activity pool is perfect for families and small children and features water slides and other fun structures. More information is available by calling 302-836-9622.
3. Club Brennan, 1 Primrose Drive, Bear
Another favorite for many Middletown residents, Club Brennan is a private facility open to a maximum of 400 members annually. The facility features an “L-shaped” swimming pool, a lap pool, a round pool for children or toddlers, lounge chairs and more.
There will be times when the pool closes during the summer 2016, so make sure you check their website at www.clubbrenan.net for updated hours. The website also offers information on how to become a member.
