More than 700 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners are set to compete at the annual Special Olympics Delaware Fall Sports Festival.
More than 700 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners are set to compete at the annual Special Olympics Delaware Fall Sports Festival on Nov. 11-12 at St. Andrew’s School, 350 Noxontown Road, Middletown.
For the second consecutive year, the Fall Sports Festival, sponsored by Chase, is being held on the quaint St. Andrew’s campus.
Preliminary competition in bocce will begin Nov. 11 and then, Nov. 12, competition continues in bocce along with round-robin tournaments in flag football, soccer and volleyball. A 5k and 1-mile run along with a Young Athletes demonstration also will be held. More than 150 coaches have volunteered to train the athletes during the past two months with representation in each sport from every area in Delaware and volleyball teams from Howard County, Maryland.
For the 19th consecutive year, Chase is the presenting sponsor and its employees are organizing and volunteering at the event. This year, more than 400 Chase employees, along with their families and friends, are expected to help.
The St. Andrew’s community, including faculty, staff and students, will be involved in the event.
The opening ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 12 inside Sipprelle Field House. Admission to the ceremony and all sports events is free. For more information, visit sode.org.
