UPDATE, Nov. 7: The critically injured person is a woman, police said.

UPDATE, 3:40 p.m.: According to Delaware State Police, the subject injured in the explosion at the World Championship Punkin Chunkin event in Bridgeville has not died as a result of their injuries, as they previously reported. The male subject has been transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. More details will be released at a later time. 


Delaware State Police are currently investigating the explosion of an apparatus being used at World Championship Punkin Chunkin this afternoon, Sunday, Nov. 6, in Bridgeville.

The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. at 18598 Apple Tree Road and as a result of the explosion, one person has died. It is unknown if there are any other injuries at this time.

The investigation into this incident is in its very early stages. More information will be released as it is made available.
