Kirkin Roofing of New Castle is recognizing the spirit of the holiday season by giving away a free roof to a needy family. The winner will be unveiled Dec. 11 at Metro Pub and Grill in Middletown at 2 p.m.
“We just feel like this is the reason for the season,” office manager Danielle Rankin said. “We want to give back to the community. There are a lot of people you meet on a day-to-day basis and there is lot of needy people out there. This is just a way for us to give back.”
For those who know someone who could use this gift, you can send the name and story of your submission to firstname.lastname@example.org. The entries will then be judged by a panel comprised of Sen. Nicole Poor, Rep. Valerie Longhurst, and Rep. Kevin Hensley. After all letters are read and judged, the panel will the pick the winner.
“What someone would do is nominate someone else,” Rankin explained. “They would list that person’s name, number and address, then give a short description as to why they believe that person is in need of a free roof.”
While this may be the first time that Kirkin Roofing has done this particular holiday season giveaway, it is not the first time that they have given back to the community.
“We do a lot of other volunteer work, stuff on a smaller scale,” said Dan Rankin, President of Kirkin Roofing. “Our main goal for giving back is trying to help out the first responders and military.
“We also have one other spot that we volunteer a lot, Victory Village over in Middletown, along with having a longstanding program known as ‘Roofs for Troops’, where we discount the materials for military and veterans when they are doing a roof project with the company.”
While this is something new, it is not Rankin’s intent to make holiday giveaway a one-time thing. To Rankin, the holiday season is a reason to take giving to a whole new level, which is why the company had decided to do the giveaway not only for this year, but for years to come.
