The New Castle County Master Gardeners and the University of Delaware College of Agriculture & Natural Resources Cooperative Extension recently announced their workshop schedule for spring.
All workshops are held at the New Castle County Cooperative Extension Office, 461 Wyoming Road, Newark.
Workshops scheduled are:
— “Daycare for Houseplants,” 7-9 p.m. Feb. 21. A brief overview of the skills necessary to maintain healthy plants in the home. Cost is $15.
— “Growing Crape Myrtles, Camellias and Magnolias in Delaware,” 7-9 p.m. March 22. Participants will learn about selecting the best varieties for Delaware and cultural requirements to grow these traditionally southern plants here. Cost is $15.
— “It’s the Berries,” 7-9 p.m. April 4. Participants will learn the basics of growing strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Cost is $15.
— “Fairy Gardens,” 7-9 p.m. April 11. Participants will learn to design an enchanting fairy garden. Cost is $25.
— “Broad-Leaved Evergreens for Delaware,” 7-9 p.m. April 18. Evergreens can help keep the wintertime blues away. Learn about newer species and cultivars available in the area to offer more variety, improved characteristics and increased hardiness. Cost is $15.
— “Advanced Pruning,” 7-9 p.m. April 25. The workshop will cover the basics of pruning common plants for the health and shape desired. Discussion will include the height, form and function, future growth and overall health of each plant. Cost is $15.
— “Annuals Around the House,” 7-9 p.m. May 11. Learn all about annuals. Attendees can start their annuals from seed or buy several inexpensive flats from local garden centers. Cost is $15.
