Smyrna police are searching for Usef Dickerson, 30, of Middletown, after an early morning vehicle pursuit on Saturday. 

At about 3:48 a.m., a Smyrna police officer on patrol attempted to stop a Ford Taurus for registration violations on U.S. Route 13 near Jimmy Drive. 

The driver of the Taurus fled the traffic stop at a high rate of speed.

Smyrna police pursued on Route 1 northbound and eventually onto U.S. Route 13 northbound just north of Smyrna town limits.

The vehicle pursuit was ended by police when speeds became excessive in the area of U.S. Route 13 and Blackbird Forest Road south of Townsend.

The vehicle was later discovered by Delaware State Police Troop 9 officers abandoned and crashed near Union Church Road north of Townsend.

Through investigation, Smyrna police identified Usef Dickerson as the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle during the pursuit. He is currently wanted by the Smyrna Police Department for disregarding a police officer’s signal and various traffic charges.

Dickerson is also wanted by Delaware State Police Troop 2 for fleeing a previous unrelated collision in their jurisdiction as well as several court capiases.

Dickerson should be considered dangerous and has made statements that he will avoid going back to jail at all costs.
