A woman was hurt in a collision on Summit Bridge Road north of Middletown on Monday afternoon.

Middletown Volunteer Hose Company, New Castle County Paramedics and Delaware State Police responded to the incident at approximately 4:10 p.m., in the 4000 block of Summit Bridge Road just south of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal.

The collision involved a 2004 Toyota Rav 4 and a 2014 Ford Focus, police said.

The driver of the Rav 4, Paula McCloskey, 65, of Warwick, Maryland, was trapped in her vehicle when the incident was reported. However, when county paramedics arrived, she was no longer confined to her vehicle.

McCloskey was in the care of emergency medical technicians from Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown. She was treated for head, chest and left wrist injuries.

McCloskey was transported to Christiana Hospital by State Police helicopter, and was in critical condition during the transport, according to county paramedics.

State Police are investigating the incident and more details will be reported as they are released.
