Surf-tinged indie band *Repeat Repeat will gig at Firefly on the Northeast Hub Stage on Thursday.
*Repeat Repeat isn’t a typo. They’re a trio. And a contagious one at that.
The surf-tinged indie band from Nashville will catch some waves on the Northeast Hub Stage at Firefly on Thursday, opening day of the four-day music festival.
The band features Andrew Herrin (drums) with husband and wife Jared Corder (vocals/guitar) and Kristyn Corder (keys/vocals).
*Repeat Repeat’s Jared Corder discussed living in a literal animal house, Wilmington, and the sacrifices he makes for his career.
Describe your music in 10 words or less.
Surf rock-candy. Think: the B52s meets Arctic Monkeys.
How did you come up with your name?
While in the shower, I saw ‘*repeat, repeat’ on a bottle of shampoo. We dropped the comma, kept the asterisk and here we are.
Have you ever been to Delaware?
We have. We’ve played Delaware twice before, and we pass through often on our way to and from New York City. Nice people and history; and Wilmington has such a pretty town-square area.
Who are a few of your favorite artists?
Broncho, Mother Mother, The Raveonettes, Nada Surf, The Mamas & The Papas, Surfer Blood, Cage the Elephant.
What sacrifices have you made to get where you’re at?
Leisure time and basically all other substantial ambitions. The amount of hard work and time it takes to do things people can’t ignore is often underestimated. With my wife, Kristyn, and I both in the band, our family life has to yield to all the requirements of a career in music, so there are sacrifices made in terms of quality time, solid sleep schedules, the occasional challenges of a vegan lifestyle on the road and missing any semblance of a quiet home life while we’re away pursuing goals.
What’s a question you wish more people would ask?
How do you work through the moments in your career where you feel stuck?
What’s something fans don’t know about you?
Andy has his own radio show in Nashville when we’re not on the road. Kristyn and I share our life with 10 rescued animals (three dogs, five cats, a parrot and a horse) - a few of whom have special needs. So we have two amazing pet-sitters who help make our career possible. The band also has a podcast on iTunes and Stitcher called the “*Repeat Repeat Podcast Podcast” where we interview other bands and interesting folks as a way to connect further with fans, friends and those interested in engaging more or just getting to know us as a band better than you’re really able to through a Facebook post.
