Police investigating collision at intersection of U.S. Route 301 and Levels Road near Royal Farms
One person died in a three-vehicle collision Sunday evening in Middletown.
At 5:35 p.m., a 2007 Jeep Cherokee with Maryland registration was traveling south in the right lane of U.S. Route 301 approaching the intersection with Levels Road near Royal Farms.
The driver apparently failed to stop at the red light and entered the intersection of U.S. Route 301 and Levels Road, said Middletown police.
The Cherokee collided with a 2013 BMW 328i with New York registration and then with a 2003 Mercedes-Benz ML350 with Maryland registration.
Both the BMW and Mercedes were turning on a green light at the intersection to travel on U.S. Route 301.
The driver of the BMW was killed, police said. The other occupants of the BMW were transported to Christiana Hospital as a precaution and released with no reported injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes sustained minor injuries and was released at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep was treated at the scene and released with no reported injuries.
The road was closed in the southbound and eastbound directions, while traffic was diverted around the intersection for about three hours while the investigation took place.
All vehicles involved were disabled and removed from the scene for investigative purposes.
The Middletown Police Department traffic services unit is investigating this crash and possible charges are pending after review by the Delaware Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General.
