Home Builders Association of Delaware held its annual Fall Golf, Crab & Steak Feast on Oct. 5 at Odessa National Golf Course in Townsend.
Former New York Yankees baseball player Mariano Rivera joined for a round of golf and crabs. Rivera played 19 seasons with the Yankees and was best known as the Sandman for his ability to close out a game as a relief pitcher. Rivera has his own foundation called the Mariano Rivera Foundation.
Home Builders member Scott Morris, of Palram Americas, approached Home Builders staff and golf committee members to ask if he could purchase a golf bag, have Rivera sign the bag and then silent auction the bag. All agreed when they found out that the proceeds would go to aid relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
Home Builders sent 29,500 pounds — two truckloads — of supplies to Houston in early October to aid in hurricane relief efforts.
Scott purchased a Top Flight golf bag for Rivera to sign. The signed bag was then auctioned off through a silent auction during the crab feast. Steve Arnold, of Energy Services Group, was the winner with a bid of $1,600.
